To create skins
If you are a registered user it is very easy to create your own custom appearance for the Codebook from within the application it self. To start, go to "CustomizationŠ" in the "File" menu, and a window with the available skins will load. (You can also click the skins icon in the main window.)

You will now be presented with the customization window. Here you can select any of the available skins, and edit it to your own. Select a skin you like, and press the "EDIT" tab at the top.

In this window you can change all the properties of the layout of the main window. Play around with the colors and patterns and see how it turns out. To see how it looks, just press "APPLY" and all the changes will take affect. (TIP: if you OPTION-click on a color or pattern box, you'll be able to enter the value in numbers. If you type "-1" in the sidebar primary color field, it will be transparent. The same goes for Description background. In the Description background you can also try -2.)

The color you select for text information will also become the highlight color of the buttons in the main window.

Now all you have to do is save your layout as a skin file. First, press the "Author" button and put whatever information you want to be distributed with the file. (Such as copyright notice, who you are etc.) After this is done, Press the "Export" button and save your file. If you save it in the Skin's folder, you'll be able to see it directly if you press the SKINS tab and return to the list of available skins. Happy creating! :)

Advanced
To incorporate a picture in your skin, you will have to use RESEDIT and copy a picture to your skin file. After this is completed, go to EDIT mode in the Codebook and select your skin, then put the image id to the ID the picture has in the file. (Usually 128). You can chose to stretch the image or not.
